Our Experience With Wine Awesomeness
How Does Wine Awesomeness Work?
With Wine Awesomeness you have the option of two different and simple membership levels, which are receiving 3 bottles or 6 bottles of wine per month. You also get to choose if you want all reds, all whites, or a combination of both. If you choose the combination option, there is also a chance for rose and sparkling wines as well. You can only choose to get your shipments on a monthly basis, but you can skip any month you want or cancel your plan at any time.
What Wine Did I Receive?
These were the wines I received in my shipment from Wine Awesomeness:
- 2016 Zazou Cotes De Provence Rose
- 2015 Anchors Away GMS
- 2015 Arios “Aguafuerte” Trajadura
How Did it Taste?
The 2016 Zazou Cotes De Provence Rose was my favorite of my three wines from Wine Awesomeness. It had a very mild in flavor and aroma. To me it did not have much aroma at all really and it was hard to tell what the wine was going to taste. I could not detect the nose of strawberries the magazine they give you claimed, but it did have some floral and berry aroma if you focused your sense of smell. It was also surprising that the wine’s mild flavor was still quite tangy and acidic. I am not a huge fan of higher acidity wines that also lack some complex flavor.
The 2015 Anchors Away GMS was my least favorite. I am not a huge red wine drinker in the first place, but I found it was too acidic and harsh for my preferences. It definitely had a strong cherry and spice taste and aroma just as their tasting guide states. It particularly had nutmeg, cherry, and raspberry notes on the palate. I think this wine would pair well with grilled steaks and dishes that have bolder flavors, because the body in this wine would be able to hold up to rich and flavorful dishes well.
The 2015 Arios “Aguafuerte” Trajadura was also very fruity just like the other wines. On the nose it has strong and pleasant aromas of grass, Earth, peach, and a lot of floral notes. I was disappointed that this wine was acidic and tangy as well, but it was more balanced with fruit and floral tastes.
I think the biggest issue I had with Wine Awesomeness was the ones in this shipment were not to my taste preferences. They are all pretty tangy and acidic and I think wines that have lower acid, more body, and more floral fruity sweetness that are not as dry. However, for people who do like the profile of wines they sent this shipment, they would probably be very pleased with the wines as they were quite good quality. like in the monthly shipment.
Would I Drink it Again?
Even though the wines were good quality, they did not fit my taste so I would not drink them again. However, wine preferences are completely individual and I am confident other people would most certainly enjoy these wines. It is all subjective.
I do wish they provide more variety in their monthly shipments though. All of the wines in this month’s box were very similar and on the drier side with higher acidity and tanginess. More variety would have been nice because there would be a higher chance that everyone will find a wine they enjoy in each shipment. Plus, it makes it a little more fun and exciting.
Would I Recommend Wine Awesomeness?
Wine Awesomeness would appeal to people who have a diverse palate and like wines with many different tasting notes. It is also great for people looking to be more adventurous and try wines they would never be able to purchase at their local wine shop. Wine Awesomeness feels trendy and like it would appeal more to the younger crowd. They focus more on providing a global experience with their wines, rather than strictly looking for highly rated wines. I would possibly recommend Wine Awesomeness for some people, but overall, I think there are better wine clubs out there.
