Which Club Did We Sign Up For

We signed up for the Classic Series wine club from the Original Wine of the Month Club. This is their original club that started the Original Wine of the Month Club. It's also a great value – you get some high quality wines but aren't spending a fortune for them.

With the Original Wine of the Month Club you can receive shipments to your home every month, every other month, or every third month depending on the plan you sign up for. This club has no contract, so it is easy to cancel your monthly subscription at any time so you don’t feel stuck.

You can choose between their astounding 11 different wine club series, so there is something that will fit your budget and your taste. From domestic wines to international wines to rose only clubs, you are sure to find something you love.

They also has a wine shoppe on their website to re-order the wines you love, tons of wine accessories, and a multitude of gifting option for wine lovers as well. Original Wine of the Month Club has a 100% money back guarantee, so if you don’t love something, they have a no questions asked policy and you will receive a refund.

What Wine Did I Receive?

These were the wines I received in my shipment from Wine of the Month Club:

  • Kunza – 2017 Maule Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Chile)
  • Grove Mill – 2014 Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand)
  • Pietra Santa – 2013 Merlot (Cienega Valley, CA)

NOTE: with the classic series you will normally get 2 bottles of wine. We received an extra bottle because the wines did not ship when they were supposed to and therefore were delayed an entire week. We ordered this as a gift shipment and were very disappointed that it did not arrive when expected – plus we received no good explanation for why it did not ship when we were told it would, and never received a response back from the Owner (Paul Kalkemkiarian) after responding to his email asking about the service we received.

How Did it Taste?

The New Zealand Grove Mill was my favorite out of the wines i received. When I studied abroad in New Zealand in college, I learned to love the distinct New Zealand wine flavors that were refreshing, crisp, fruity, earthy, and always have a slightly grassey note to them. This wine had flavors of peach, citrus, and grapefruit, so it was nice a fruity and summery. It also has that distinct flavor of earthiness and grassiness you get in NZ wines. It is such a unique and different flavor and makes it very enjoyable to me. It is an easy wine to drink, everyday if you want, and would be particularly good in the warm months with fish, salads, grilled chicken etc.

The Kunza was quite good as well, although I did not love it as much as the Grove Mill. It was peachy and had aromas and flavors of herbs. It was also bright, crisp, and fresh in flavor, but i did think it was a bit too acidic for my preferred taste – it wasn’t too acidic that i would not drink it though. Just like the Grove Mill, it is the perfect wine for drinking in the summer with fresh seafood and salads.

The Merlot was tasty as well, both for drinking and cooking. I think it would be a really nice wine to cook with to give soups, stews, and pasta sauces a nice deep and rich flavor. The wine itself was full bodied and rich in both flavor and mouthfeel. Its flavors of plum, berry, and spice came through very well, so it is a great wine for the summer, but also great to drink in the winter as a mulled wine or in a winter berry sangria. This wine is definitely able to hold up to heavier dishes really well, like beef tacos that I made in my HelloFresh box!

Would I Drink it Again?

I would most definitely drink both of the white wines, although I would choose the Grove Mill over the Kunza wine most of the time. The Grove Mill is a wine I will always keep in the back of my head when I need to take a wine to a party, as a gift, or just buy to drink myself. I would drink the Merlot again as well, and I can see it being a go-to red for making delicious sangrias and cooking with as well.

Would I Recommend Wine of the Month Club?

I would recommend Wine of the Month Club for people who are looking for great prices for a wine club, don’t want to be locked into a contract, and those who are strictly looking for high-quality, hand-picked, and delicious wines. If you are looking for a wine club that has fast and hassle-free shipping, has a ton of perks like some wine club have, have special offers, etc, WOM Club will not be your best option as shipping is very slow, customer service is lacking, and they don’t have many, if any, perks and special offers.
