The Greatest Creation from the American Melting Pot—Fudge

Celebrate National Fudge Day

This great land has given the world muscle cars, rock and roll, and the sweetest sweets made from melted goodness—fudge. There isn’t a soul on earth who can resist mouth-watering, smooth, and luscious fudge. To celebrate fudge, June 16th is National Fudge Day.

How the Goodness Came to Be

While it’s not known exactly when fudge came to be, we have evidence pinpointing the time period in which it first impressed American taste buds.

In 1886, a student at Vassar University wrote a letter about finding fudge for sale in Baltimore. That seemed to be when college women began making and drowning their sorrows in the heated soother of all that plagues the soul.

To Know Fudge is to Know Thyself

Fudge is essentially heated milk, butter, sugar, and typically chocolate. It is a general rule that it has to be heated to 230 degrees.

While the ingredients are basic, there are many add-ins that you can experiment with. The most popular types besides chocolate are peanut butter, maple, walnut, and marshmallow – and of course, the glorious Oreo cookie.

The world’s largest slab of fudge to this date was made in Ontario, Canada in 2010. It weighed 5,760 pounds!

How to Celebrate National Fudge Day

The most logical way to celebrate is to smear fudge all over your body and worship the ladies of Vassar who dared to share this deliciousness. But, since people may think that is extreme, there are more socially acceptable ways to celebrate. One idea is to order some chocolate goodness or subscribe to a chocolate or brownie of the month club.  You can’t just expect one delivery of fudge/truffles/brownies to effectively commemorate this monumental holiday, can you?

For those looking to indulge in sweet, sultry, and exotic treats, Vosges Three Moon Chocolate Club is an option. This club offers Swiss, French, and Belgium chocolates. The cost is $138 for three months.

Another option for those who love boutique artisan chocolates and want to dive into bold flavors is Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club. For $34.95/month, you can get flavors like wasabi and caramelized ginger and hand-dipped traditional favorites.

If brownies are your thing, you can celebrate Fudge Day by ordering from Brownie Points. This gift company has a wide variety of brownies, including breakfast brownies. You can order box sets for someone (or yourself) starting at $13.00. And yes, they have fudge flavored brownies.
