The Bruery Society Membership Review

The-Bruery Society Beer Club Review

The Bruery Society Memberships are exclusive, unique and definitely not like any other club membership out there. The first tier of memberships can be joined by anyone (as long as there is space), while the second and third tiers require waiting lists or even a private invitation – making this club exclusive and mysterious. Sponsored by The Bruery located in Orange County, CA, this company focuses on family run, homebrewing and craft beers that are exciting, rare and worth every drop.
An exclusive club that offers three tiers of memberships – and two of which you must be invited to join.

  • Exclusive memberships
  • Access to fine, very rare beers
  • No contracts
  • Money back guaranteed
  • Can purchase beer outside of the monthly shipments

  • Two out of three memberships are invitation or wait list
  • High cost for very few beers
  • Cannot customize membership
  • Shipped quarterly only
  • No substitutions
  • Refunds only for broken or damaged beers
  • Membership is limited to all tiers

Beer Selection: (Rating: 6/10)

The selection of beers offered by the society memberships are certainly unique – and some even include rare beers that cannot be found anywhere else. But, all beers are exclusive to The Bruery; therefore, members will not experience beers not made by this brewery. Selection is based on inventory – and they need sufficient inventory of certain beer selections to fulfill membership orders. Compared to other clubs, their exclusiveness and the unique varieties is a bonus, but the lack of selection and the fact you are limited to only their varieties of beers means you may experience the same type of beer if you are in the membership for over a year.

Beer Quality: (Rating: 10/10)

As an exclusive club, there is not doubt the quality of beer is equally refined and extraordinary. The Bruery delivers some of the highest quality beers – from their own collection. While it is true you will not find international varieties with this club, that does not mean you will be short of quality. Even their lowest level tier offers the finest quality of beer and their higher tiers are the exceptional quality you may never find elsewhere.

Memberships/Pricing: (Rating: 7/10)

When it comes to membership options, The Bruery is lacking. They have one membership open to the public, but limited availability. The Preservation Society starts at $58.50 for just three bottles of beer each quarter. To join the Reserve Society you will need to place your name on a wait list and to join the Hoarders Society it is by invite only.

Additional Perks: (Rating: 6/10)

There are not much in perks for this club membership, but one that is worth noting is that members can pick up their beer directly from the brewery – if they live in California. They can also take advantage of member-only tastings done on-site (again, only if they live in California). This is not something most memberships online offer, so it is an advantageous perk to those that live close enough to take advantage of it.

Shipping and Packaging: (Rating: 7/10)

The Bruery only delivers bottles for their members and everything is brewed, bottled and packaged quickly to ensure maximum freshness. Shipping prices are not disclosed and will vary depending on the weight of that shipment and where it is being shipped to. Those that live in California can pick up their shipment and avoid shipping charges. The states they ship to are also not clear.

Website Features: (Rating: 8/10)

This is a locally owned operation; therefore, they put more emphasis into the beer than building a website. That being said, the website is easy to navigate, they have an informative blog and even offer recipes online – something other clubs don't.

Customer Service/Support: (Rating: 6/10)

The Bruery itself is family owned and operated and is a small operation at that; therefore, they cannot offer the same level of customer service as these online sites that are dedicated to global-scale memberships. That being said, they still offer customer service via email and Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

The pricing for the higher two tiers is not supplied by the company.

The Preservation Society: Features three beers of the quarter, shipped four times per year. Starts at $58.50 per shipment and does not include shipping.

Customer Base This Club is Best Suited For

This club advertises itself to the experienced beer drinkers – and those that can appreciate highly exquisite craft beers as well as pay for such. With their limited membership and exclusive higher tiers, this is definitely not suited for a person new to beer clubs or drinking beer in general. Most people may find it to be the ideal gift, but it is unlikely that a person would remain in this club longer than a year – and if they want to move to the higher tiers, there is no say as to how long they would wait for an invitation or to come off the wait list.

What We Like and What We Don't Like

We absolutely adore the fact this club is exclusive. Members that join don't feel as though they are joining some garden-variety club that over-commercializes great handcrafted beers. We truly appreciate that aspect – and we even like the mystery of their higher tiers that require people to be on wait lists or invited – talk about exclusive!

What we are not a fan of is the price. This is by far the most expensive beer club we have found and at $58.50 for three beers (not including shipping, which could easily add another $20 to the total), that is much higher than other clubs. That being said, you do get some very fine beers for that price – including beers that you will not find locally.

We like that members get tasting benefits and locals can even pick up their shipments – though for those in other states they may not find those as big of perks.

They don't have contracts and customers can come and go in the membership as they please – as long as there are openings. Overall, it is a great club for those that want superior quality and a feeling of higher society when they join a monthly beer club.

7.1 Total Score

The Bruery offers three tiers of their "society memberships" each with their own focus and style. Two out of the three are exclusive memberships that you must either place yourself on a wait list or be invited to. This club takes a unique approach to the been-there-done-that beer clubs and offers unique features that some clubs cannot.
