Clubs Galore has been in the gifting business for almost 20 years. They started in 1999, and have stayed in business because of the quality of their food and beverages, their customer service, and their attention to detail. Coffee isn’t the only thing they sell, but if it were, they would still have a rock solid company because their coffee program is top notch. If you want what seems like a boatload of coffee every month that’s delivered the day it roasts, then this club is for you!

A coffee program woven into the Clubs Galore brand name that ships generous amounts of coffee the same day the beans are roasted.

PROS:
  • Fresh coffee beans
  • Free shipping
  • Great gift membership
CONS:
  • Not much coffee variety
  • Website isn’t dedicated to coffee alone
  • No coffee club perks or education
  • Unresponsive customer service

Coffee Selection: (Rating: 7/10)

The Good

One of the past coffee offerings includes the Guatemala Huehuetenango Wakyan, which has a medium dark roast with notes of tart lemon, toffee, cherry, and nuts.

The coffees are selected by their in-house team and then delivered to subscribers. But, they aren’t curated the same way as more dedicated coffee clubs.

Each shipment contains two 8-12 ounce selections of coffee — so you aren’t stuck with just one big bag of coffee.

You can choose between whole bean, fine ground, coarse grind, etc. So, you aren’t stuck with whole beans only with Clubs Galore.

The Bad

Like many other clubs that strictly offer a randomized monthly subscription, Clubs Galore lacks on coffee variety. Sure, they ship single-origin coffees from up and down the roast spectrum, but having certain coffee types readily available is beyond Club Galore’s capabilities.

Upon further investigation, there are no decaf coffee offerings from Clubs Galore at this time. With no K-cup, or iced coffee offerings, Clubs Galore suffers in this category.

Coffee Bean Freshness: (Rating: 9/10)

The Good

It’s hard to beat coffee that’s shipped the same day it’s roasted. Not many coffee clubs ship within 48 hours of roasting—much less 24 hours. The coffees are always in season when they ship as well, which adds even more to freshness.

The Bad

The only problem I have with Clubs Galore is that they ship monthly, which means the beans become stale after a few weeks of sitting on the shelf at home. Despite this, they get high marks in this category.

Coffee Quality and Taste: (Rating: 0/10)

The Good

All coffee is organic and comes in fresh grounds or whole beans. They don’t offer Fair Trade Coffee, however.

The Bad

We requested samples from Clubs Galore to taste and they ignored our requests. We were not willing to commit to a three month contract (the lowest contract they have); therefore, we cannot rate them in this category.

Memberships/Pricing: (Rating: 6/10)

The Good

This coffee club is stacked with great features. Customers receive two 8-12 oz. selections of coffee for $34.99 per shipment. This is a lot of coffee compared to some other clubs. Also you can choose whether to ship every month, every other month, or every third month.

The Bad

The only thing is that customers must sign up for a minimum of a three-month membership, which subtracts from the club being more dynamic. You can choose from three months (minimum) to as many as 12 months.

Since we initially reviewed Clubs Galore, their pricing went from $27.99 per month (in 2015) to $34.99 per month for the same amount of coffee. This is quite the price jump. Those already under contract would not be affected, but those new to the club will be forced to pay the higher price.

There are no free trials, so the only way to try Clubs Galore is by signing up for three months minimum.

Also, if you were to sign up for a year commitment, you would pay almost $500 for your coffee subscription. This is quite the commitment.

Additional Club Perks: (Rating: 7/10)

The Good

Each package contains tasting notes, brewing tips, and a personal message in case you’re giving it for a gift. Customers can also choose whether to have the coffee ground or kept in whole bean form, which is something many other coffee clubs simply don’t offer.

The Bad

These perks aren’t anything unique. Most clubs send some sort of newsletter, so that is expected. Because Clubs Galore doesn’t solely offer coffee of the month subscriptions, you don’t get the same education opportunities, tasting notes or even apps. Overall, their perks are average.

Shipping/Packaging: (Rating: 7/10)

The Good

Clubs Galore does offer free shipping, which adds extensive value to customers. The packaging is also what sets Clubs Galore apart, and is something the customers love. They’re secretive about the details behind the designs, but I’m sure that customers will appreciate the care that went into wrapping their gifts.

The Bad

We cannot testify as to how their packaging actually looks — and if they take time to package their beans/grounds so that they aren’t exposed to air or light. Clubs Galore required us to sign up for three months to try their products, which we feel is not fair to those that want to try the product.

Gift Memberships: (Rating: 8/10)

The Good

Clubs Galore does offer a gift membership, and they were quite thoughtful when considering the features to include. Before the gifted coffee ships out to the recipient, a folded card arrives in the mail with a personal message to whoever’s receiving it. This is a nice touch, and lets the person know beforehand that they should be expecting a package.

The Bad

Overall the rest of the gift membership is just like the regular membership that can be purchased on the website. For the gift membership, you must still sign up for three months of coffee, which is about $105. That is a costly gift for some people.

Website: (Rating: 9/10)

The Good

The website looks perfect, and I had no problem with the organization, layout, and information presented. There is a “blog”, but it’s not updated extensively with information about coffee or the coffee clubs. You can sign up for a newsletter, request a catalog, and shop other interesting food and beverage clubs while on the site. Perhaps this simple ability to find many things in one place also sets Clubs Galore ahead of others in this category.

The Bad

While there are many other categories to shop in, there isn’t much information about coffee in the blog itself, and there really isn’t that many web pages dedicated to the coffee club either. More information would’ve meant a better score, but they are dynamic where other coffee clubs aren’t.

They also don’t have a lot of FAQs about the coffee club. In fact, the only information they have are eight bullet points telling you the benefits of the club. They don’t tell you the coffees you could receive, freshness, etc.

Customer Service: (Rating: 2/10)

The Good

There are phone lines open Monday-Friday along with email, mail, and a FAQ page for Clubs Galore in genera.

The Bad

While they have all of these means of contact, Clubs Galore doesn’t actually respond. We reached out to them several times — as reviewers and potential customers — with absolutely NO response. They didn’t respond via social media, email, direct messages, etc. So, we can only imagine how paying customers will be received when they have issues.

FAQ's

Who is This Coffee Club Best Suited For?

This club is best for those who like variety and an easy, thoughtful way of gifting coffee to friends and family.

What We Like About Clubs Galore

Good Gift Options: Their gift club is thoughtful, their website is clean, and they offer free shipping on all their orders.

Can be Combined With Other Clubs: One perk to using a company like Clubs Galore is the fact that you can combine your coffee of the month club with other monthly clubs, like chocolate of the month, cheese of the month, etc. These are each their own monthly subscription fee, but having the ability to add on extra customization is always nice.

What We Don’t Like About Clubs Galore

Not Really Customer Centric: The quarrel I have with Clubs Galore is how it’s randomized and has no “store” to speak of. I wish they had some more variety and catered to customers’ personal preferences more. For instance I wish they could ship only medium roasts to people who like medium roasts, etc.

Too Big Box: The coffee club is also trapped inside a large online retailer, which means that it doesn’t receive all the attention from the staff.

Poor Customer Service: When we initially did our review, we found customer service didn’t know how to answer our questions. When we updated a year later, customer service was completely unresponsive. They didn’t respond to inquiries. This is partially because they are a big company with too many inquiries, but, if you are going to offer a product, you need to be able to respond to inquiries.

Three Months Minimum: Clubs Galore requires a three month minimum commitment. Other clubs don’t do this — and most clubs offer a free trial. While Clubs Galore says no contracts, you still must lock yourself in for three months (and as long as 12 months). We would like to see a one month option or free trial so that they are more accessible to those trying out different clubs.

Final Thoughts

In the end, Clubs Galore does offer an excellent selection of coffee, but you are dealing with a larger company. That means less responsive customer service members, not as freshly roasted beans, and possibly a more expensive experience. While Clubs Galore has some excellent points, they are better suited for those who can commit to a three month minimum — and be willing to go with what they receive during those three months.

5.8 Total Score
A well-known monthly club devoted to coffee and more.

With Clubs Galore Coffee of the Month Club you can get fine quality coffees and even pair it with other club options for a well-rounded monthly delivery.
