Coffee Selection: (Rating: 9/10)
There are endless varieties of Coffee from Angels’ Cup. They strive to try as many different roasters and beans out there — it is their mission. When you join, you cannot pick and choose your roast preference, but that is because they are teaching you how to taste and creating a mysterious adventure. That being said, they still send everything from the roasting spectrum, and even include the infamous washed coffees.
Beans are single-origin and curated from around the world. They are roasted from around the world (including the United States) too. Like the Yellowbrick Coffee Peru El Cedro. A sweet, juicy coffee bean from Peru that was roasted in Arizona.
About 80 percent of the coffees from Angels’ are light roasts, 20 percent are medium, and they don’t ship dark roasts. So, if you want a club that does dark, you may not be satisfied here with Angels’ Cup.
Even though you cannot pick and choose your coffees, Angels’ Cup makes it work. We’re not going to hold it against them either, because that is the point of this club. They want to expose you to something new, teach you how to taste coffee and go on a hunt for something new. You can’t exactly do that when you pick what you want to drink.
They also never shipped the same coffee twice. And, they do not have an inventory. Meaning your coffee is as fresh as possible, because they have just received it packaged it, and shipped it to you.
The types of beans you receive will mostly fall under light, medium and espresso roasts. So, if you’re a fan of dark roasts, you may not get what you want out of Angels — but you may be surprised at how powerful and robust some of these lighter roasts are after they’ve been washed and roasted.
Coffee Bean Freshness: (Rating: 10/10)
The beans come from all over with Angels’ Cup. Their team works hard to find the highest quality coffee and they handpick their roasters. Coffee will arrive to you seven to 10 days after being roasted.
Don’t worry. Not all coffees should be drank immediately after roasting and Angels’ Cup takes that into consideration. They make sure the coffees arrive at their peak for flavor.
Nothing. I was impressed at how Angels’ Cup discloses their shipping and roasting times, stamps the product with roasting dates, and ensures freshness with every shipments.
Coffee Quality and Taste: (Rating: 9/10)
Be sure to check out our blog post on our full experience with Angel's Cup!
I tasted four different varieties from Angels’ Cup. They were all washed, but still delivered the exact flavors their tasting cards mentioned.
The aroma of the coffees is exceptional. It’s almost fruity (natural for washed coffees). The flavor and body were perfect, and while they were slightly acidic, there wasn’t any bitter or gross aftertastes to ruin my experience.
I loved how they provided me with detailed tasting notes — even telling you about how it should feel inside your mouth (such as like “butter”).
The quality of this coffee is phenomenal. You can tell they take their time curating these coffees and that they are concerned with what they procure for their customers. They don’t just pick any coffee. They pick based on flavors and then build up the flavors. It’s quite impressive.
If I had one complaint (which could be seen as a positive for some), the entire box was all washed coffees. It would have been cooler to me (since i’m sampling here), to have washed mixed with traditionally processed coffee too. But, I can also see why they would do all washed — to let you compare the different types of washed beans out there.
Memberships/Pricing: (Rating: 10/10)
There are three membership options with Angels’ Cup. While pricier, the price tag shouldn’t be your first concern. Price can be indicative of quality and the overall experience — and after testing them personally, they’re worth the cost.
All memberships let you choose between ground, whole bean or fine ground. Each comes with free shipping (unless you’re in Canada, then you have an extra shipping fee).
First you have the Cupping Flight, which includes four-32g sample bags for blind tasting. It starts at $9.99.
Second, you have The Black Box, which is what I tested. Here you get four-2.75oz samples for blind tasting. This one comes in at $21.99 per month with free shipping.
Lastly, you can choose the Angels’ Cup All Star. This ships on 12oz bag of coffee, but here’s how they do it: they get feedback from all of the small samplers throughout the month. Then, they pick the coffee that has the highest rating among the tasting community for their All Star round. So, you are guaranteed to receive a cup of coffee you will actually enjoy drinking — because it has been rated #1 by everyone else.
The sheer volume of options is impressive. You could spend less than $10 and get a whole tasting adventure delivered to your door.
Nothing when it comes to their memberships. They are priced excellently and considering the experience and coffees you receive, it’s worth every penny.
Additional Club Perks: (Rating: 9/10)
Angels’ Cup has a lot going on and especially in the perks department. Each box is a mystery, but in addition to that, you can turn around and purchase the sample boxes you get for anywhere from $14 to $17 per bag. The price is fairly reasonable, considering the coffee you’re receiving for that price.
They also have an innovative app. This app isn’t just some waste of GB on your smartphone either. Angels’ Cup sets out to teach you about the different flavor profiles of coffee. Each region, country and elevation creates a unique flavor of bean. They teach you how to identify the subtle (and delicious) differences. You can compare your tasting notes to the roaster’s notes, learn how to smell coffee, sip coffee and identify even the most muted flavor.
This teaching opportunity is unique to Angels’ Cup — and definitely a perk worth mentioning.
They don’t offer coffee discounts or free coffees. But this isn’t something all clubs offer. A free trial would be cool, but you can always try their smaller box for under $10.
Shipping/Packaging: (Rating: 10/10)
Beans are roasted and arrive within 7 to 10 days. While this seems excessive, most coffees taste better a little after roasting — not immediately after. So, you’re getting the best flavor.
You’ll know what you’re getting the moment the box arrives. Angels’ doesn’t use generic packaging; instead, they send over this sleek, mysterious tasting box.
The label automatically starts the intrigue and you’ll definitely find yourself excited to open it up and see what it has in store for you.
When you open the box, you’re greeted with your blind tasting cards, information about their tasting app, and then sleek, small bags of whole bean coffee. These are all labeled and correspond with the tasting cards. The names of the coffee are not on the bags — in case you want to do the blind taste test.
The cards have detailed information on the back. After you do the blind taste test, compare what you tasted in the coffee to the notes. Also, you can learn about the roaster, where the beans were procured, their processing method, etc.
Shipping is free for all club memberships to the United States, but there is an additional fee for Canada. There is no expedited shipping — so the beans arrive when they arrive. You will receive a confirmation letting you know your shipment is on its way.
If you are going to pause or cancel, you must do so before the beans ship. Black Box and Cupping Flight shipments are packaged on Fridays and delivered to the post office on Saturdays. All-Stars ship on Tuesdays, but this may vary slightly depending on when the roaster is done.
Absolutely nothing. I love their free shipping, fast shipping, and how they are clear about when their product ships. Most clubs don’t go that in-depth.
Gift Memberships: (Rating: 6/10)
Angels’ Cup does offer gift memberships and gift givers have some freedoms when it comes to picking out the right gift.
They don’t exactly make it easy to find the gift memberships on their site.
Unfortunately, they don’t have just one month that you can gift. Instead, you will need to commit to three, six or 12 month gift options. You can pick which membership you sign up for, but we never like to see someone locked in. After all, what if the gift recipient doesn’t like it? They will have three, six or 12 more months regardless.
There are no additional perks offered for the gift membership, such as special packaging. There are no gift certificate or gift cards at this time either.
Website: (Rating: 10/10)
Angels’ Cup website is excellent.
You can find insider tips on brewing, find information about the app, and read through their blog. The blog addresses coffee lovers, shop owners and more. They even feature their coffee talks on the blog.
The website itself is easy to navigate and ordering up a subscription is simple.
I couldn’t find any complaints for their site. I tried it on two computers and it worked great both times. It was easy to navigate, informative, and impressive.
Customer Service: (Rating: 9/10)
Customer service from Angels’ Cup is excellent. When we reached out to them, they responded in less than 24 hours and were more than accommodating.
If you need to contact them, you have a few options, including social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook), online chat, and email.
They don't have a customer service number, which seems to be common among these coffee of the month clubs. While common, we still prefer to see some sort of direct communication — after all, emails can be lost or ignored. That being said, they are attentive to customer inquiries and respond quickly. So, it’s not an issue as of yet.

Who is This Coffee Club Best Suited For?
Angels’ Cup probably won’t work for everyone. If you have a particular type of coffee you must have, you won’t like this club — because they are all about exploring and hunting down unique coffees. Also, if you are a more dark or robust coffee drinker, this club only offers light and medium roasts; so, you may not be as impressed.
Instead, I recommend Angels’ Cup for those who are ready to try something new, branch out their options, and explore the world of coffee. You also have to be open to the idea of washed coffees (which aren’t for everyone), because a large majority of these unique coffees will be washed.
Don’t be afraid of trying something new though. For the price and the fun that Angels’ Cup offers, as long as you are willing to at least sip on something different, you could really enjoy this club.
What We Like About Angels Cup
Mystery in a Box: Angels’ Club does something that I haven’t seen from other clubs: the blind taste testing. This is awesome! I love the mystery and how they build on it — you are titillated to receive your tasting box.
Excellent Pricing: Angels’ Cup isn’t that expensive either — especially when you consider the coffee types, quality and freshness.
Memberships That Work For Everyone: There are three levels of memberships here, each very affordable. If you are the type that wants to receive just one bag, you can. If you want a sampler, you've got it. I like that Angels' Cup gives you both options and then expands on them.
Innovative Tasting App and Learning Opportunity: I love the tasting app. This club doesn’t just give you coffees and tell you what you should taste — they actually TEACH you how to taste coffee. This is a refined art that I think all clubs should be teaching. After all, don’t you join these clubs to fully experience the coffees?
What We Don't Like About Angels Cup
Limited Dark Roasts: I do wish Angels’ Cup offered a few dark roasts. Not all gourmet coffees are pigeonholed into light or medium roast. There are plenty of gourmet, rare and unique coffees on the darker spectrum.
No Customer Service Phone Number: I wish they had a customer service number. If people have questions or concerns, they should be able to call the company directly — if they do have a number, they don’t make it easy to find on their site.
Angels’ Cup is a fun, mysterious coffee of the month club. They build up the mystery, make you excited to get your next shipment, and by far are one of my favorite clubs. With their affordable rates and plenty of subscription options to choose from, they are perfect for those that want to go on a coffee tasting adventure (while staying at home).
