My Experience with Moustache Coffee Club

You hear the name and think, “well, how could I not try something so refined?”
Moustache Coffee Club is one of those unique monthly clubs out there that focuses on gourmet coffee, fine roasts and the freshest beans possible.
Even better, they add a touch of humor and spunk to their membership. While all sounds well, you never know what you are actually going to get with these coffee of the month clubs. That is why I decided to order them up and taste them myself.
I judged on everything from taste to packaging to the overall experience. After all, if you are joining a coffee club, it’s more than just about the coffee. Sort of.
What Coffee Did I Receive?
I received a sample box from Moustache Coffee Club — which you can order yourself right now for free. This trial sample gives you a glimpse of what you could expect if you were to sign up for the monthly shipments — always appreciated.
Once I opened it, I was greeted with my sample package and some info. While simple, it was still a neat way to open it all up and find it all.
The info basically went over the club and the beans I received. They tell you about the coffees, which is a bonus. I personally like to know what I’m drinking, where it came from and most importantly, why they picked that coffee for me.
The packaging of the beans (yes, you receive whole beans) was simple, but still had tons of info.
You know the bean origin, the company that roasted it (not the same FYI), the processing method and even the elevation the coffee was grown at. A true coffee aficionado would know that these things matter. To the rest of us, it’s just useless info — but still cool to read nonetheless.
The bag specifically listed the date it was roasted. But, one thing Moustache does that other clubs did not is tell you when the best time to drink it was. This actually matters. Coffee shouldn’t be consumed immediately after roasting and some beans pack a better flavor if you wait. Moustache tells you the prime dates to brew — score!
So, How Did It Taste?
For this test, I received a bag of washed coffee known as Thageini AA. These beans originated from Kenya.
I personally am not a fan of washed coffees. They are, to me, coffee for tea drinkers. They have a distinct tea-like flavor and mouthfeel.
But, I did taste every flavor profile listed on the bag. Raisin, definitely. Fig, oh yeah. This blend was sweet, but still had a bold coffee smell. Most of the washed coffees I’ve had did not have a bold, coffee-like smell. Instead, they smelled like fermented fruit (in a good way). This one was definitely more robust in smell and the beans were slightly darker than the other washed varieties I’ve had.
Despite all of that, the coffee still brewed up like a usual washed coffee. It was clear, clean, smooth and had that slight touch of acidity.
Would I Drink It Again?
Probably not. But, that’s nothing against Moustache here. I’m just not a washed coffee fan.
Would I Recommend Moustache Coffee Club?
Despite the fact I didn’t like the coffee, I’d still recommend them.
I know what you’re thinking here. Why on earth would I recommend them if I didn’t dig the coffee? Let me explain:
Moustache Coffee Club doesn’t just offer washed coffees — and the fact that they procure them is a good sign. Washed coffees are gourmet coffees that are not something you find at your local store (and if you do, I want to know where you shop!). So, if they are sending them, that goes to show the quality of coffee their club highlights in their monthly shipments.
Besides, you wouldn’t receive a bag of washed beans every time your shipment comes from Moustache.
Overall, Moustache Coffee Club delivers on what they promise — coffees for the discerning palate. So, if you’re not picky, you like to dabble in something new and you’re almost adventurous with your coffee, you’d love what Moustache has to offer.
