As such, the company strives to offer virtual phone system solutions that are both user-friendly and flexible for personal, mobile, and small business use. Phone.com has seen substantial growth over the past few years, and they continue to add more premium features and improve functionality – making them ideal for companies that want a cloud-based phone service provider that is constantly innovating.

Phone.com offers a basic way to get virtual phone service. You start with a base rate and then add on the premium features and minutes you want to create your own customized bundle. No contract is required for this either.

Since their virtual phone systems target small businesses and personal use, their pricing is extremely affordable and users can even create a combo plan between the two – adding the features they need to help their business and scale their plan up or down to meet their needs.

With Phone.com you have 3 plans to choose from – the Base Plan for $9.99 per month which includes 100 free minutes, the Plus Plan for $19.99 per month which includes 500 free minutes, or the Pro Plan for $29.99 per month which includes 1,000 free minutes. All plans come with a 30 day free trial and include mobile app, unlimited user extensions and a local or toll-free number. You also get over 40 standard features such as call forwarding, call blocking, call transfer, auto attendant, voicemail to email, and more.

Additional minutes are purchased in bundles ranging from $35 per month to $169 per month and giving you as much as 5,000 additional minutes. Unlimited minutes can also be purchased at a price of $23.99 per month per extension.

Phone.com is the first and only merchant to offer a plan with true unlimited toll-free minutes.

Call Management: (Rating: 8/10)

Phone.com provides users with a variety of virtual phone system call management solutions. While it is not as full featured as some of its competitors when it comes to call management-specific features, it is ideal for small businesses and professionals that want better communication options.

Setting up Call Handling Rules with Phone.com Some of the call management features you will find include online address book – for faster calling in the future – call blocking, call handling rules, call logs, call notifications via email or text, call screening, call transfer, call waiting, caller ID, call conferencing, do not disturb, follow me, call forwarding, call queues, and voicemail.

Each plan offers one number, but you can add additional phone lines for an added fee. Setting up Phone Numbers in Phone.com Phone.com offers toll-free numbers and you can choose from 800, 888 and 877 prefixes. For toll-free numbers there is no extra fee, but you are billed based on the plan’s current pricing. There is an additional charge for toll-free calls if they originate from Canada ($0.05 per minute) or payphones ($0.99 per call). For local numbers, you can choose any area code within the United States that you want to localize to.

You can also opt for a customized local or toll-free number (vanity number) so that it is easier for customers to remember your company’s contact information. Custom numbers are charged a one-time fee and an additional $4.99 per month. Rarer numbers can cost over $100 for a one-time fee in order to reserve the number.

Phone.com also offers international numbers so that your company can establish a presence in another country. For standard countries (like Australia, Poland or South Africa) the cost is $4.99 per month and premium countries (like Argentina or Hong Kong) cost $12.99 per month.

If you already have a number, you can port that number to your new Phone.com account and even transfer multiple numbers at a single time. Porting with Phone.com takes an average of 10 to 15 days, but may take up to 60 days depending on the company you’re porting from.

Advanced Features: (Rating: 8/10)

Over 40 features come standard with the Phone.com service. Some of the advanced features offered by Phone.com come at an additional cost while others are free. This is nothing unusual, because most cloud-base phone services have additional fees for the superior features.

Using Phone.com’s HD Conference Calling A few advanced features worth noting include call recording, caller analytics, CRM integration, professional recording, voicemail transcription, and even bulk number porting.

Usability/Ease of Use: (Rating: 10/10)

Ease of use is an area in which Phone.com prides itself on, and it lives up to the hype. Users can communicate via mobile, landline, desktop, or web. There is no need to purchase additional or special equipment, allowing you to use existing equipment and reducing setting up costs. The dashboard allows you to easily manage your account with Phone.com and it was specifically designed so that it was easy to use for just about anyone.

Setting up Extensions with Phone.com Their online system features an intuitive web interface that lets you configure, manage and design more than 50 features in a single location.

Help & Support: (Rating: 10/10)

Phone.com offers 24/7 support for all its pricing plans – something other companies often charge extra for. Users can call toll free, or chat online with a representative. Additionally, several white papers and webinars are accessible to expand a user’s knowledge and offer additional valuable support for increased user functionality and experience. The support staff at Phone.com is exceptional and they have been praised for offering top-notch support with their U.S.-based help technicians.

With their unlimited plan they could accommodate larger businesses too – since their price per user is comparable to other companies that offer similar unlimited plans.


What We Like About Phone.com

Small Business Focused: Phone.com is focused on providing affordable solutions for small business professionals. Their options and call solutions meet that goal and make them extremely unique when compared to other cloud-based phone service providers.

International Friendly: Phone.com is more international call friendly than many of its competitors. Make calls to Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, and USA. While International calling is an add-on premium feature, it is a budget friendly solution for individuals and small businesses with international calling needs. And, with flexible pricing, this service can be added and removed as needed. Also, those that want to establish an international presence can get an international number through Phone.com – something not all companies offer.

phonecom-post2Flexible Pricing: With their base plan, you can then add on the features and amount of minutes you need based on your company’s needs. This also allows you to scale your service up or down based on how many minutes your company uses each month – a truly customizable experience.

Easy to Use: Since Phone.com can be used with existing phone equipment, there is little to no set up time and costs involved. The service is highly intuitive. Calls are forwarded from Phone.com to one or multiple devices, allowing connectivity anywhere.

International/Global Numbers: Phone.com lets you create an international number even if you are not geographically located in that area. That means you could operate out of the United States, but have a number based out of London. This allows a company to create a global presence in the areas they do business and where their customers are located without physically living there. Prices will range from $4.99 to $12.99 per month per international number depending on the country you choose.

Unlimited Toll Free Minutes: Phone.com offers unlimited toll free minutes with its unlimited plan. This is an incredible value, as many companies do not allow for completely unlimited toll free minutes. Additionally, its unlimited plan offers unlimited local minutes as well. As of right now, Phone.com is the only merchant that offers a true unlimited toll free minutes plan. Most companies that offer “unlimited” plans still have a maximum monthly cap ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 minutes max – Phone.com does not cap their unlimited plans.

Free Trial: A free trial is an important feature, allowing you to test the service before you buy it to ensure it is the best solution for your business needs. Phone.com offers a 30-day free trial, in addition to its no fuss, no contract service agreement.

24/7 Customer Service: Unlike some of its competitors offering entry level plans for small businesses that restrict customer service, Phone.com offers full access to telephone support as well as online chat services. Phone.com only hires top-notch professionals to manage their support lines, which means users have access to experts when they call in with their questions.


What We Don’t Like About Phone.com

Cost of Premium Features: All premium call features are priced at an additional monthly charge. While this is not surprising as far as pricing goes and is done purposefully to appeal to individuals and small businesses that need only some advanced features. If you are a small business in need of only one or two advanced features like call recording, voicemail transcription—or none at all—this is an ideal price setup. However, for those mid to large businesses with higher demand for these features, the additional a la carte cost is not ideal.

One Number: With each plan, only one central number is provided – either toll free or local. Extensions, however, are unlimited. Again, while this is ideal for most small businesses or individual users, it is not for those with broader and larger telecommunications needs such as multiple local numbers for distributed office locations.
